Editorial reviews from the web (3)

Offering a “modern, gritty” interpretation of a Mexican cantina – complete with a six-shooter-wearing skeleton on its sign – this “sceney” Wicker Park rock bar is adorned with Dia de los Muertos–style artifacts and draws a “youngish” crowd; despite an “impressive tequila selection” and “pretty good” food, some say this Eat Well Drink Better venture is a “watered down” version of the real thing.

Owned by Eat Well Drink Better, the company behind tighty-whitie clubhouses Central, Union Park and English, Angels and Mariachis is decorated in a mélange of stereotypes encompassing the obvious in both Mexican and tattoo cultures: wrestling masks, mariachi musicians, and a sombrero’d skull logo framed by scrollwork and six-guns. The irony is lost on tatted-up white servers pimping cheap,...

Tacos, tequila and Tecate from Eat Well. Drink Better.

A carefully weathered sign featuring a skull and six-shooters announces the cantina--a very Disney scene when viewed in the greater context of thriving Division. Clapboard siding, rusticated wood...

I'm going to give this place one star because it doesn't exist anymore.

While the main courses can be lacking - do not let this keep you from enjoying great appetizers and drinks.
The atmosphere turns lively around 10pm - prior to this it is the perfect starter place for appetizers and drinks.
Never turn down the opportunity to have a terrific margarita!

Yelp

They changed the original menu and the original concept at this place and really blew it. The original concept of a "taco bar" where they had a number of different options (which were all delicious),…

Eat Well, Drink Better.

Owned by the same company which runs the Grand Central and English (on LaSalle). This is quite a departure - lots of Mexican art, and several margarita specials. -

Designed to look like that of a Quentin Tarantino set, this Rock Cantina has a distinct cultural feel to it. With Mariachi arts and traditional symbols in the interiors, Angels & Mariachis resembles a local eatery in Mexico. Savor spicy Mexican delights and Tijuana food with a cool margarita. And while you indulge in the hot and cool fare, enjoy classic rock from evergreen artists like Pink...

Tips about this business (8) view all

Parking: Division is lined with meters, but on the weekends no one seems to budge. Thankfully, cabs are plentiful.

The Extras: The bartenders do a nice tequila shot service, including your choice of tequila, a shot of tomatoey spiced sangrita and the requisite limes and salt--all on a miniature wooden service tray.

When to Go: On nice days, the sidewalk patio is just as good as other Division Street favorites. Also, any day even loosely associated with Mexico is a sure bet.

On The Menu: Tacos are the go-to items. Choose from a changing list of traditional and dressed up meats like pork carnitas and lightly battered shrimp.
