Help us make it rightThe Anchor will take you back to an earlier time with its low lighting, well-worn but comfy booths, nautical-themed décor, retro jukebox full of surprises and inexpensive prices that seem out of another era. Grab a bite to eat from the meat-and-potatoes menu, or just stop in for a beer or two. The Anchor is a Yale favorite, and only a hop, skip and a jump from the Shubert Theater.
This eatery lives up to its name, having stayed on the scene for 42 years, with the same owner, in the high-turnover restaurant business. Through all that time, it has offered the same cozy and intimate interior, with black-leather banquette seating, juke box, dim lighting and seasoned bartender. The hearty helpings of home-cooked meals haven t changed, either, nor has the friendly...
A nostalgic old New Haven "LANDMARK" now OUT OF BUSINESS. There are many stories about the place from being a "Mob Hangout" to Celebrities starring at the world famous Shubert Theater and staying at the equally famous Hotel Taft, both across the street, dropping in and entertaining the patrons and was once owned by the Police Chiefs and Mayors brother....
I've been to the Anchor in the past and had a pleasant experience. The decor is a throwback to old fashioned eateries (in a good way). Aargh matey, not everything needs to be modern and shiny, there's character and history inside this charming and authentic saloon. Love the booths and the jukebox plays nothing but the best. Go before it gets fancy!
Nothing awesome about the food. cheap place to grab a beer if you need a break from Owl Shop, but if you're looking for a burger or sandwich, pretty much their menu, there are plenty of other places in New Haven to grab one.
A swell dive. Strong drinks, respectable bar food, and wait staff who have their act together, at a reasonable price. The crowd is lively and interesting and appear to be able to handle their liquor with dignity.

This centrally located favorite is just off the Yale campus and has been popular with students (including Jodie Foster) and locals for 40 years.
