Help us make it rightMesquite-grilled, corn-fed beef is the highlight at this historic steakhouse.
San Francisco's Oldest Steakhouse, Since 1928. Martinis, Whisky, Dry-Aged Corn-Fed Beef.
All kinds of people dine at Alfred's Steakhouse, from socialites to businessmen, tourists and romancing couples. One thing they all have in common is the desire to get a great deal on a classic steak dinner. Feast on porterhouse, t-bone or prime rib; carved right at your table. Famous for its Caesar salad, Alfred's also boasts one of the largest collections of single-malt scotch in the area....
This historic FiDi steakhouse nears its 90th birthday with a facelift from San Francisco’s Daniel Patterson Group (Coi, Alta CA). Excellent representations of classic cocktails are highlighted by a quartet of Manhattans; lemon oil adds a refreshing note to vodka standards. Openers of meaty, chilled gulf prawns and bites of house pastrami on grilled bread with Dijon and pickle both feature bold...
Now a member of Daniel Patterson's restaurant empire, this classic Downtown steakhouse continues to supply hefty cuts of grass-fed beef via a mesquite grill, accompanied by signature house martinis. The spruced-up setting retains its crimson walls, red-leather booths and chandeliers for a fitting dose of retro style, though the prices are very much up to date.
The Scene
Set in an alley and seemingly back in time, this masculine steakhouse is a respite for those seeking steak and stellar service. Generous pours from the bartender make the crowd...

We have been to Alfred's several times when visiting the San Francisco area. This review is only for the most recent visit. Our prior visits had both outstanding service and food so this could be a one-off occurrence. Overall, this visit just didn't stack up to what an experience at a steakhouse should be or what our prior experience here was especially when you are paying at minimum...
The service was fine, the evening was meant to be a rare enjoyable night out. The anticipation for the highly rated steak made the two hour trip worth while. Expecting an $85 steak to be better than any other ever tasted, we were very unimpressed. The side dishes were fair, again not worth the price. Do not order the spinach, do not spend $85 on a steak. Impeccable service (friendly, knowledgeable, timing aware, ...) Each dish cooked just right. Tasty cocktails. And the proximity many afters adventures make this a wonderful venue
Best steak I have ever had and the side dishes are great. The service is outstanding.

Alfredo Bacchini, a well-liked waiter in San Francisco, decided to open a storefront restaurant at 886 Broadway Street in 1928. Alfred's was soon serving the who's who of the city. During the bleak days of prohibition, the restaurant was closed down for a brief, very brief, time - politicians still wanted a good drink and a great steak.
