What the community has to say about Akasaka

Information about this business (1)

Behind the unpretentious plaza location and simple storefront facade is a bustling sushi bar that also serves traditional Japanese cuisine. Located a few minutes drive from the Yale campus in Westville, an urban neighborhood in New Haven, this restaurant is popular with locals as well as visitors. Very good sushi--attentive staff and creative dishes.
We have brought our family here for years. The new
owner has brought a new menu with different specialities.
We don't eat shellfish, so I can't recommend a lot of the
fishes! But what we do eat, we love!

There is not too many decent Japanese restaurants in the greater New Haven area, and even fewer that have affordable pricing. In the past few years, Akasaka has undergone some new renovations and now has a more polished look. The food is generally good, but the sushi lacks the polish and especially the freshness of other Japanese restaurants in the...

Just like the proliferation of sushi everywhere, Akasaka is convenient but not worth the time or effort. The people are nice, the restaurant is clean but the fish is fair at best. If you must go here if not try elsewhere like jerry sans in West haven.

Some of the rolls are very good. Fantastic tuna roll is one of my favorite. Dynamite roll is also good. Service is moderately friendly, so we enjoy sitting at the sushi bar. The atmosphere is fine, a bit on the dark side and nothing fancy. Just functional. So, if you are not up to a trip to NYC for more...

Business description (2)

This sophisticated restaurant offers fresh sushi and other Japanese specialties. Don't be deterred by the strip mall locale; this is an upscale place for lunch with some of the best Japanese cuisine in the area. Udon noodles, tempura vegetables, excellent grilled fish, and the broad selection of sushi rolls are all top draws. If you're still hungry, the tempura ice cream is a satisfying treat.
