This award winning casual French Bistro is located in charming Brookside on the picturesque trolley trail. Chef Emmanuel, originally from Aix-en-Provence, brings his simple Southern French homestyle cooking to Kansas City. If a bistro could stake its claim on one dish, Aixois" would be the Ruby Red Trout meuniere. The romantic spot is also home to the city's most delicious and authentic pommes...

Editorial reviews from the web (2)

Megan and Emmanuel Langlade's neighborhood bistro has grown, with more seating indoors and out and a 50-seat private dining room. They've kept the same traditional dishes---three variations of mussels, crepes, quiche and steak frites---but…

Pate, escargot, duck confit and other French favorites get precise, reverential treatment at this upscale but unpretentious Brookside bistro.

The Scene
Upscale without being stuffy, this Brookside eatery draws a mostly older set--professional couples, tweedy academics and sweater-clad retirees--to its buzzing confines. The...

We have frequented Aixois for years and I think Saturday night just may have been our last. Cold food and really poor service. Took 25 minutes to get our desert.

A little gem

Went to Aixois for lunch on a snowy day. The establishment was warm and cozy, the food outstanding and reasonably priced. It's located in a beautiful part of the city that is perfect for a stroll before or after dining. I plan to go back...

Aixois is a reliably good place for lunch, dinner, or coffee and dessert. The food is consistently good and well prepared, and they offer a nice variety of options as well as a good wine list.

Aixois is a great place for brunch, lunch or dinner. The mussels and pommes frites are amazing. It is kid friendly and has a great wine list. Enjoy the patio when the weather is nice!

We were in Kansas City to see family and friends. We went out for dinner several nights but only returned to one place -- Aixois. It is the kind of place that pleases everyone. And it did. We had a variety of dishes on the...

Tips about this business (4)

Save Time

In addition to its main dining room, Aixois has a separate cafe area that serves thoughtfully made pastries and a range of coffee drinks. It's perfect if you need a snack on the run.

Know Before You Go

The lunch menu contains many of the same appetizers--soups, salads, pate--and replaces the entrees with sandwiches (including a croque monsieur and a grilled steak sandwich).

Save Money

Monday night offers a scaled-down, discounted menu that's served family-style.

What to Drink

The wine list is surprisingly short but well selected, highlighting bottles from France's Rhone and Bordeaux regions. The Chateau Greysac is merely a middle-of-the-road Medoc red, but the St. Emilion from Chateau St. Georges is a flavorful, medium-bodied blend of cabernet and merlot that compliments a wide range of the restaurant's meat dishes.
