Ace Hotel Portland is one of the most unconventionally designed hotels you will ever come across. The interiors of the hotel remind you of an art gallery and cafe with the walls painted in pop art and animal shapes like cats, dogs and deer by the likes of Evan B Harris and Brent Wick. Private rooms as well as shared rooms are available. The hotel has a happening and youthful look about it, but...
Portland calls for a new kind of shopping experience. Its climate and culture lead us to an urban indoor/outdoor space for eating, drinking, and shopping. Union Way finds its origins in the streets and alleyways of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, and serves as a counterpoint to the typical urban retail block or the suburban festival marketplace. The public promenade draws people through...
Bauhaus meets industrial salvage center at this überhip hotel a block away from Powell's City of Books. Young creative types will adore this fun and funky place that conjures up cheap European hotels of the past. In the lobby, a large, old industrial door serves as a giant coffee table, while over in the corner, there's a vintage photo booth. Every guest room is different, with very unusual...
Hipsters dig this smart renovation of a 1912 hotel. The gritty, modern vibe extends from the lobby, with its army green couches and old photo booth, to the individually themed rooms. Each of the...
In Short
Situated between downtown and the Pearl, the building combines architectural elements of the original 1912 structure with clean-line furnishings and a touch of Northwest...
Spent a long weekend exploring Portland and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Ace. It was perfectly located for walking around the city, was surrounded by amazing restaurants and breweries, and was a super comfortable stay!
We staid in one of their on-suite rooms. No view but quiet instead. The room was very functional but well appointed. The building has four floors but only 1 lift, so you either wait for ages or take the stairs.
This place is straight out of a Wes Anderson film! The walls of the rooms, mostly plain, have wonderfully surreal muralesqe caricatures on them. The design is of an industrial flavor fused with some sort of futuristic 1930's art-deco. The groundfloor lobby has amazing coffee on one side and a bar with dining on the other. The music in the...
My 4th or 5th stay at this Portland version of the Ace brand -- I've not ever stayed at any of the others. And, I love this particular hotel's location, staff and hip, quirky, and eclectic property. It's totally in the spirit of weird and wonderful Portland.
The hotel is a classic old downtown building and the rooms and hotel...
I enjoyed the one night stay but be aware these rooms are like staying in an old house. The wall hung sink is visible in the guest room and not in the same room as the shower or toilet. The mattress is quite firm on the platform bed. The old windows make for a drafty room in the winter. It's...

A few of the old hotels in downtown Portland are cheap and seedy. This one --- hooray! --- is affordable and charming. It resides in a 1912 building that was completely renovated in 2000. Fortunately, the building has retained its original charm. For example, the bathrooms feature original mosaic tile floors and claw-footed tubs. Staying here means an experience mixed with the highs and lows of...
