Information about this business (3)

Jazz gets cozy every night in this Prohibition-era pub.

A funky dive bar from prohibition days, the 55's heart is jazz and its soul is the blues. Incredible musicians rock the house nightly with some of the most innovative playing in NY (if not the world)! Watch musical legends checking out the newcomers and veteran barflies chatting up first timers. A cool staff with no attitude (well, almost), a low cover and a wicked juke box make this a true...

If you can handle the run-down atmosphere of this legendary dive, then you'll be treated to some of the best be-bop ...

Besides being a "true dive", this circa-1919 Village vet hosts live jazz and blues nightly ("slumming A-level" acts included) for ultra-"reasonable" covers; its small, "homely" basement digs and "strong drinks" appeal to youngsters and oldsters in search of the "real deal."

A Prohibition-era dive bar with incredible nightly live jazz, funk, and blues in Greenwich Village.

Basement dive almost a century old, featuring jazz, funk, blues nightly. Modest cave with exposed brick had a lenient smoking policy for 84 years. Reasonably priced drinks; hosts a multitude of solo performers, duos, and bands. Sophisticated, quiet, subdued, and a perfect place for new musicians to showcase their talents.

Jazz gets cozy every night in this Prohibition-era pub.

The Background
Since 1919 and the days of Prohibition, folks have been sneaking down into this dark and sunken treasure to put away a few of ""the usual"" and pass the time with...

Came for a jazz band thing on Saturday night. The band was amazing. Loved their heart and soul. They were hilarious too! Had a great time with my friends singing our little hearts out. Doesn't matter if you're a visitor or live in New York, you have to make your way out here for the live jazz!!
