Proud recipient of the prestigious Zagat award, 230 Forest Avenue gained a reputation as the "in spot" among foodies after debuting at its namesake address downtown in the summer of 1995. It is the artistry of innovative executive chef Marc Cohen, however, that has added refreshing new appeal to what are termed starters, green plates, ocean and land plates as well as pasta bowls. Seafood rules...

Frutti Di Mare for lunch was good.

I stopped in last Saturday without a reservation on a whim. The decor looks modern and attractive, even though the space is relatively small. It's a busy place, so don't expect an intimate quiet meal, but the food and service were very good. I ordered the Frutti Di Mare ($23) for lunch which is basically large bowl of linguini with a red sauce topped with seafood.

The seafood was very well prepared. Generous pieces of fish, tender calamari, shrimp and mussels and the red sauce looked it was probably made from tomatos and pureed red peppers; it was flavorful without being heavy because it had no cream or butter that I could taste. They also serve a small baguette of fresh baked white bread which was also hot and nicely done. My wife had the Ahi Tuna Tartare ($14) which was also very good, and a chopped seafood salad ($18), which was fine but unimpressive for the price.

If I'm in the area again I'd go back.

Chef-owner Marc Cohen's "lively" Californian in the heart of Laguna Beach is "frequented by locals" and tourists who come for the "unique", "delicious" menu abetted by "top-notch" service and "great people-watching" in "trendy" surroundings; despite the "cramped quarters" ("be prepared to sit in the laps of the couple next to you"), "fair prices" make it a "winner."

Manhattan-style bistro in downtown Laguna serves up satisfying fusion cuisine.

230 Forest Restaurant Review: 230 Forest, located in the heart of downtown Laguna, is chef Marc Cohen’s flagship restaurant in OC. And while he’s gone on to open other locations under his less interesting Opah concept, Cohen’s talents still shine mostly brightly here even though his fusion cuisine does at times seem rather outdated. First off, this chic spot with its minimalist and artsy décor...

Sleek and dynamic Cal cuisine draws sophisticates, not surfers, just a block from the beach.

In Short
A chatty crowd drinks cocktails and dines on Cal-Asian cuisine at street-side patio tables and an outdoor-indoor bar that disappears into the restaurant through floor-to-ceiling...

The fried Brussels sprouts appetizer with honey, lime and bacon was fabulous. We also had the double cut porkchop, perfectly prepared as requested. We would definitely return.

Always superb seafood, great cocktails and wine, and excellent service. We make it a point to stop in Laguna Beach at least once or twice a year just to dine at this restaurant.

230 Forest Avenue Restaurant & Bar is a California, Salads, and Seafood restaurant where most Menuism users came for fun with friends, paid between $25 and $50, and tipped more than 18%.

This is a beautiful restaurant with a mostly successful menu that incorporates regional American cooking with flavors from the Pacific Rim. The menu changes with the season, and the fresh fish is always straight from the sea. And even if the food wasn't worth returning for (which it is), the room is bathed in a light you'll want to be seen in again and again. (Elizabeth Evans, Orange County...

Enjoy dining on exquisite seafood and steaks from 230 Forest Avenue. This upscale eatery is the brainchild of Mark Cohen, who dishes out contemporary California cuisine with flair. In addition to mouthwatering dishes like Maui onion soup and short rib ravioli, the restaurant also has a famous martini bar that draws a huge crowd. The contemporary, bistro-style decor is accentuated by a rotating...

Don't be fooled by the crowds and the noise; they are all part of the scene here at Laguna Beach's sexy and intense 230 Forest Avenue. The lean deep room seduces you to the open kitchen, bustling bar, and concrete floors, creating a space that is part modern bistro, part martini bar, and part art gallery. It's the perfect spot to see and be seen, laid back Laguna-style. Executive Chef Marc Cohen...

Suave and sophisticated, this California-style seafood restaurant attracts Orange County's elite, all clamoring to be part of the scene, whether in the sleek martini bar or at one of the handsomely dressed tables in the main dining room. The menu is known for being as contemporary as the decor. Indeed, starter plates may include anything from ahi tuna tartare with whole-grain mustard to...
