What is now 17th Street Cafe started out in the late 1800s as a butcher shop and single-family dwelling. Back in those days Steel was King, and the South Side was home to mainly immigrants who came to America and Pittsburgh to work in the steel mills. This place is excellent! Both my husband and I cook (him professionally) and we are always disappointed with restaurants. Not this place. Absolutely everything was outstanding. We loved the cozy atmosphere too.
