Your best bet for coffee in Pioneer Square is this fun, artsy joint, especially since Torrefazione has gone downhill after being bought out by a chain. Its sandwiches and salads are good for lunch, too.

Exposed brick yields to saffron-stained wood shelving and a wall of glass. Put simply, this is a city coffee shop. Regulars from neighboring businesses stop in for shots to keep them going, while artists and writers cozy up to the scattered bistro tables outside. The baristas take their jobs seriously, as befits deep, smooth illy, the house brand of espresso. The cafe also serves a variety of... more

Make it a stop on Pioneer Square's First Thursday's ArtWalks--ideally timing the espresso for right in the middle of the evening.

In the context of square Seattle, Zeitgeist seems almost obscenely stylish. Even the ATM machine has been aestheticized; it sits cuddled inside a custom-made warm wood shell because, c'mon, an everyday dull gray cash machine would clash garishly with the art on display. But Zeitgeist is utilitarian and laid-back, too. Sandwiches are served cold or hot-pressed, and they're served with not even a... more

An excellent coffeeshop in one of the most eclectic areas of downtown. A MUST to visit! this is hands down the best coffeeshop I have ever been to; better than any in all of Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, or my current home of Phoenix. We will be stopping in when we visit Seattle later in the summer.

Pros

+ Ambience, coffee and food all top notch.

Cons

- Since it is downtown, it may be... more

Coffee without attitude by Dianne J. at InsiderPages

If you're in the Pioneer Square area and looking for a coffeehouse where you can relax and enjoy good grub without attitude, go here. We came here because we like to support the independents. It's cool without being annoyingly hip. Open, airy interior. Art by local artists on display adds inspiration. They have food items and baked goods. My sandwich was satisfying. Espresso was top-notch.

Zeitgeist is bar none the most beautiful, and inexpensive coffeehouse in downtown Seattle. There is great ambience, attractive baristas, interesting art shows, and delicious coffee. I would recommend Zeitgeist to any tourist coming through Pionner Square, or any local living in downtown Seattle ore the I.D.

Pros

+ Service, coffee, sandwiches, art, ambience

Cons

- None
