This Armenian mini-chain arguably serves the best fast-food chicken in town. Massive rotisseries turn out plump, juicy birds with a delicate crust that the Colonel can only fantasize about, and the prices are rock bottom. Pita bread and a killer garlic paste come with the chicken, and a combo plate includes hummus, tomatoes and pickled turnips, too. The tarna (chicken shawarma) plate, complete with ... more

Forget the Colonel. Zankou's aromatic, Armenian-style rotisserie chicken with perfectly crisp, golden skin is one of L.A.'s truly great budget meals. It's served with pita bread, veggies, hummus, and unforgettable garlic sauce. If this doesn't do it for you, try the kebabs, falafel, or sensational shawarma (spit-roasted lamb or chicken) plates. Reservations not accepted. No credit cards.

I used to love eating here, but in the last couple of years, the quality has really gone down. The food is either too greasy (literally dripping out the bottom) or super dry on the tarna sandwiches. Don't even get me started on falafels (also very dry). Considering there are so many other locations now (particularly the West LA one and the Burbank one), I just don't bother anymore.
