In Short This place attracts a suit-and-tie crowd, but lacks the snobbery of other yuppie gyms. The cardio equipment is located in two adjoining rooms and includes 18 treadmills and 14 Netpulse Internet-equipped stationary bikes. I have been a member of the Embarcadero YMCA for many years now. I love how the gym is always clean and never too busy. The staff always are offering new free classes to take. I highly recommend this gym to anyone that likes to workout in a clean and safe place.
Pros
+ view of the bay, updated workout equipment, friendly staff
Cons

If I have to run on a treadmill - at least I have a spectacular view of the bay. The staff are great. I'm working with a personal trainer and finally making improvements...

They do not try to rip you off or to sell you anything here. People are not judgemental and are not constantly people watching - everyone just wants to get healthy. Also, there is a very nice complimentary "coach" program sponsored by the Y. The only minus of the place is that it could be cleaner (especially the pool/locker room area)
