My main attraction to the Woodland Pattern is the Alternating Currents Live music series that they sponsor. The series features live Jazz and Free Jazz performers from around the country. It's small intimate venue seats approximately 50 people comfortably. These events are sporadic running 6 or 7 times per year so mark your calendar.

This place is great! I've been stopping by Woodland Pattern every now and again ever since I was in college in the 80s. They have a variety of small press publications and reading material that you don't see everywhere. Plus the poetry readings and art displays, which are just awesome. This is kind of an offbeat place, but well worth a visit to check it out.

Besides excellent books on Native Americans, gender issues, social issues, and unusual fiction, Woodland Pattern book store also features an decent sized art gallery for edgy shows. Additonally, it sponsors performance art, poetry readings and related events.

PROS: A cool destination for literary and visual art
CONS: Limited to specific types of reading material
