This is the place that the band R.E.M. was pimping out back when they were more famous. I still remember the pork chops and macaroni and cheese I had for lunch here, and that was 2004. Highly worth eating at if you are in Athens or are an R.E.M. fan. And yes, the guy does say "automatic" when you order.

Weaver D's is known for the phrase automatic for the people that REM named an album after. And what a place it is! A little hole in the wall that doesn't look like much, but what it lacks in ambiance it makes up for with finger licking good food. You cannot get better southern cooking. Trust me.

It's so wonderful that Weaver D's hasn't become a tourist trap despite its now-famous name. The mac and cheese is amazing, and even though we can't often eat much else due to being vegetarian (in the South, greens come with ham), we always enjoy a trip here.

Weaver D's is nothing special to look at. The outside is currently painted bright green. The inside is a jumble of tables and chairs. But it is the real deal in Athens soul food. Go for the experience.

You'll always find local people eating here, particularly students and work men, which just shows that it serves cheap, good eats.
