This hip, friendly restaurant seems to liken itself to a Euro disco, with its red velvet furniture coverings and a lot of dark colors. Two of us had steaks, and they looked the same although they should have been very different--hmmmm. The garlic bread appetizer is good, but the bottled iced tea they spoke highly of was a watery yawn. Fun, but there are better values in town.

Editorial Reviews from the web

Loud, loungey music pulses through the lobby of this lively Loop hotel.

The Scene Formerly the Midland Hotel, the renovated W retains its elegant gilded ceilings and inlaid tile floors. The dark, cushy lobby (nicknamed the Living Room) feels like a hip nightclub, with a resident DJ spinning tunes from the overlooking balcony. It's quite a scene, with more than half the lobby loungers coming from nearby offices for pricey drinks and potential pickups.... more

This hip hotel space draws Loop denizens with contemporary Tuscan fare.

In Short Well-heeled businesspeople and couples dine in the divided dining room where linear, masculine, dark-wood accents are softened by plush burgundy banquettes and booths. The menu offers fresh variations on earthy, rustic Tuscan cuisine: A starter of creamy polenta with musky wild mushrooms gets a kick from peppery balsamic reduction; grilled dorado is sauced with a sherry-laced... more

If Chicago had a proper fashion week, We (inside the W City Center Hotel) is where you would find the models after the show. Host to most of Chicago's bold and beautiful, it resists pretension. Perhaps it's the warm and inviting burgundy-hued banquettes, the flattering candlelight, or maybe just the feeling you get after supping on bistecca alla Fiorentina with a side of mashed Tuscan potatoes... more

Health Code Issues - Worst Hotel

We had issues with bed b*&s - (insects Citysearch won't let me use the real word) and large insects in our guest rooms. I called the general manager's office twice and received no response. I also reported the incidents (yes, that's plural) to Starwood Headquarters and never heard from them either.

I definitely had the feeling throughout my stay that the W decor theme of dark lighting was... more

This place REALLY is a hotel/nightclub. Rooms aren't very big but enough for me. Quite pricey. GReat martini's that come with a tin on the side which I absolutely love! & hot sangria? That was different.
O yeah and granny apples =) Overall pretty cool place. But book your room through one of the other sites instead of callin in directly, you might get a better deal.

I stayed for 5 days at the Downtown "W" hotel (on Adams St.) on my first trip to Chicago. I had very high expectations. Almost everything went wrong, from a tiny room (probably about the smallest i've ever been in), to a malfunctioning entertainment system, and more. While I know sometimes these things happen, what was most disheartening is the complete lack of care by management and hotel... more
