Sporting magnificent gardens on the edge of Biscayne Bay, this enchanting 34-room Italian villa was built in 1916 by industrialist James Deering, who designed it in the Renaissance style which he loved. It cost Deering $15 million at the time and took 1,000 craftsmen more than five years to complete. Spread out across more than 10 acres of waterfront with 20 acres of untouched jungle beyond,... more

Built in 1916 as the winter home for James Deering, son of the founder of International Harvester Machines of Chicago, this house and its gardens are truly beautiful. Said to be more extravagant than his older brother, Charles, James shopped throughout Europe for treasures to fill his palace, and to select the architectural style. The Miami home of Charles demonstrates the style differences of... more

I get a bit stumped whenever I get the news that a friend/relative is flying in for a visit. South Beach is crowded and has parking issues. Aventura mall is great, but people who come to Miami usually want to see something distinctive. Viscaya to the rescue! You can go it alone (without a tour guide), but I recommend you call ahead to arrange for a guided tour, then spend the rest of the day... more

I came here on a renaissances festival, but this place overall was beautiful. It is green and lush, the fountains look archaic but beautiful. I know of a lot of ppl who use this spot to take their wedding pictures, sweet 16, or quincenera. Next to the ocean which happens to be clean, compared to other beaches in Miami.
