Vera's is also a unique business model in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. Most every place that serves barbacoa is either a tortilla factory or a meat market. Like Vera's these places usually serve it on Saturdays and Sundays only, but it's a smaller part of a large operation. On the weekends, Vera's is all cow head, all the time (except a sad brisket that we'll get to later).

My family enjoy eating at Vera's not only because it's close by, but because the food is great and the service is fantastic. The owner and the employees are always friendly. They always greet you with a smile. If you are able to visit Vera's you will not regret your choice.

In operation since 1955, this family owned and operated establishment serves slow roasted barbacoa cooked in a mesquite-fired ground pit. Specializing in smoked cabezas, the meat is offered with the choice of flour tortillas and salsa. The business is only open on weekends.
