The Athan family has been serving breakfast, lunch, and an early dinner on Phinney Ridge for 60-plus years. The American Greek diner food is delicious and plentiful, but it's the interplay between the regulars and the incredibly friendly waitstaff that makes this a great hangout.

whilst i enjoyed the food and the cleanliness of the establishment, the mood of the lone staff member (which i believe was one of the owners) left much to be desired. as a person whose means of support relies heavily on courteous customer service, i felt the staff member's demeanor could use some vast improvement. i will never eat there again

I had to smirk in agreement with the last review. Not so much in reference to the service, but to the quality of the food. We had heard good things about Val's, so we were curious to try it. Saying it is like your average (and I underline the word AVERAGE) greasy spoon hits the nail on the head. Certainly nothing special. Mae's is definitely better, and the Salmon Bay Cafe is about as good as it gets ...
