“bargain pet supplies”

Collar & Leash Pet Food & Supl
They'll beat everyone on prices but the have a fast turnover for the people who work there.

“Interesting prop shop”

Dapper Cadaver
This place has all sorts of great death related props from fake corpses and skeletons to biological specimens. For those with a big budget, this is the place to rent your Halloween props from. Great place for browsing.

“Great day spa”

Ole Henriksen Face & Body Spa
A wonderful place to get a facial and a massage. Great spa treatments too, like their salt and sugar scrubs. Michael is the best massage therapist.

“Great European style deli”

Froma On Melrose
This is a little jewel box of a deli. They have a great selection of charcuterie including jamon iberico. They also sell the micro-gastronomic products of Spanish chef, Ferran Adria.

“Great casual dining”

BLD
The best French press coffee in town. This place has great egg dishes and blueberry ricotta pancakes for breakfast. For lunch or dinner there's an array of charcuterie, cheese, sandwiches, salad and main dishes. They also have a decent wine list.

I have to amend this review as my friend had her car broken into by their valet parking service. The stole her urn with mother's ashes and threw it in some park in the valley.

“Good products, c@!%!y service”

Design Within Reach
If I wanted to build my furniture myself I would have gone to IKEA. I purchased a dining room table here and was given no indication that I would have to assemble it myself. Nor was I offered their "white glove service". The wanna-be actress who sold me the table then lied and said she did offer it. But I was there with a friend and neither of us recall her mentioning it.

“beyond neighborhood bar”

The Abbey
During the day it serves as a coffee house with great food and tempting desserts. At night it's a total scene. Sad to say the quality of this place has fallen as it has become more popular. Example - They make their mojitos with Rose's Lime Juice - and that is an abomination!

“Decent barbecue”

The Pig
They have decent barbecued ribs and pulled pork here. Their rib tips are quite good. They have two types of cole slaw and really great potato salad. I like their corn bread and decadent traditional American desserts. Parking can be difficult on La Brea.

The quality of this place has fallen of late.

“Expensive but great furnishings”

Modern Living
I bought a fancy Italian lighting fixture here and had it for a few months before I was able to install it. But when I opened the box I realized I was been sent the wrong fixture. No problems! Modern Living came to pick up the fixture and located the one I needed in New Jersey (so I didn't have to wait weeks to get it). Now I have my lighting fixture installed. The people there are so helpful and accommodating.

“Delightful Cafe”

Cafe Audrey
This is a great place for a sandwich or an espresso. The place is charming with it's black and white decor and wall of Audrey Hepburn pictures. It's a great alternative to bland Hollywood Blvd. fast food chains like Popeyes. A good place to go to before movies at the American Cinematheque.

“not all that”

Pink's
Yes it's a great place for the hot dogs, but it's not the only place! The wait in line can be oppressive. Lots of tourists.

“Great pizza”

Pizzeria Mozza
This place is almost impossible to get into without reservations. It's informal with great pizza, salads, appetizers and bruschetta. The caponata is lovely as is the chicken liver brsuchetta. The pizza crust is bubbly and crisp.

“Informal dining spot”

Village Idiot
This neighborhood gastro-pub is a fun place to go for lunch or dinner. The menu is small but filled with reliable favorites like fish and chips, mussels and hamburgers. The bar is massive. Great for drinks too.

“Great luxury hotel”

Intercontinental Buckhead
As nice as the Four Seasons but easier on the pocketbook (just slightly). Great service. I booked through my American Express platinum card and got access to the club floor. They have a Jurlique Spa too that is wonderul. I have stayed there more than once. The hotel now has Ipod players in the room and over-sized very fluffy bathrobes.

“Central Park South location”

Exhale
I enjoyed a luscious 90 minute deep tissue massage by Dale at this midtown Yoga/Spa destination. The place is very nice and restful - but expensive.

“Budget business hotel”

Chelsea Savoy Hotel
Low key, clean and well located. Refreshingly devoid of any hipster pretension. My room was quite large by NY standards.

“Perfume Mecca!!!”

Aedes de Venustas Incorporated
Beloved of many perfume addicts, this Greenwich Village jewel box of a shop features an unparalleled array of some of the best perfumes and scented candles available anywhere. The staff is passionate about their products and very helpful. They are also generous with samples.

“But for the Pandas...”

Zoo Atlanta
The only creature that raises the bar on this zoo is the baby panda. They also have great primate facilities. Some of the other animals looked cramped and unhappy (particularly the big cats).

“Upscale Greek food”

Kyma
Classic Taverna fare fare goes upscale. The food was good and we shared a variety of appetizer and meze that can easily make up a meak (and are more interesting than the main dishes). The optopus was very good. I was disappointed, however, that my saganaki was not flambeed table side.
