“Nice Moulding and Millwork”

Hulbert Lumber & Supply Co
I like Hulbert for the millwork and moulding. They have an area in the center of the store that has all of the types of moulding shown on a wall so you can get a feel for the actual installed look of the millwork.

Here's a big secret... If you ask, they will even cut you a small (about 1 foot) section to take home as a sample. Sometimes you need to see the millwork in your house to see if it will work and that is a cool way to do it.

They also carry entry doors ($$$$$) and good quality flooring. They are also the only place in Fremont that have the 3" red oak plank flooring installed in Glenmoor homes.

“Need Some Green?”

Navlets Garden Centers
Navlets is the kind of garden center that you wish you could find. They have a very wide selection of excellent plants from shrubs, trees, ground cover, etc. They also have landscaping supplies and a very knowledgeable staff. They can help you pick the right plants for your micro climate. I like to just spend an hour or so walking around enjoying the variety of plants and maybe picking up something for the herb garden.

They are top notch.

“Take a Sense of Humor”

Staceys Cafe
The menu is funny and that is exactly what you would expect at a restaurant owned by Scott Adams (of Dilbert fame). Take your time reading the funny quips and you won't be disappointed.

The atmosphere is casual and the staff is friendly. It can get packed on Friday and Saturday nights so plan accordingly. There is a very very small bar (seats maybe 10) that you can hang out at or even order some food.

There has been an odd smell there from time to time. Something between bleach and mildew. Not sure what is going on, but it can ruin a good meal if you are sensitive to smells.

I can recommend the tuna poke appetizer and the seared ahi main course. The pot roast (if it's still on the menu) should be avoided. It's dry and lifeless (in a bad way). Think big dry meat washcloth surrounded by smooshy vegetables and you are there.

Oh, and be prepared, it's a little on the spendy side. Expect to pay at least $60 for two people.

“Hands Down, This Place is Rockin”

Jack's Brewing Co
Jacks is one of those rare pub finds where you have truly excellent food, great craft brewed beer, sports (gotta have sports) and great people working there. It's the total package.

I recommend pretty much anything on the menu except the shrimp skewers. My personal favorite is the beer battered arctic cod or the buffalo chicken sandwich. Both of them go well with a cold IPA.

It's a great causual family place where you can't help but have a great time.

“What a View and Food Too.”

Moss Beach Distillery
This place is a great find. It's tucked away and a bit off the beaten path, but certainly worth the effort.

I recommend you get there early for dinner or make a reservation and request a table near the window. If you time it right you will get a pretty fantastic sunset.

The specials can be very good and I usually stick to the sea food when I eat there. They have a way of collecting email addresses (it might be on the check, I don't exactly remember) but if you get on the mailing list they send you specials and other goodies.

After dinner, get a beverage or cocktail of your choice and go downstairs to the back patio and listen to the ocean. They have blankets if it gets really cold, but it's a great way to end a great night out.

“You Get What You Pay For”

Logitech
There is not much dispute that Logitech makes awesome products. I have owned many Logitech products in the past and have never been disappointed. They cost a little more, but they are totally worth it in my opinion.

Right now I have the VX Nano mouse and it totally rocks. I also have a Bluetooth keyboard and even the DiNovo Mini keyboard (don't ask me why I got it, but it is very cool)

Here's the websiite (like you really need it ;)

“Absolutely The Best”

Me-n-Ed's Pizzeria
If you like a totally hand made (dough, sauce, etc.) brick oven pizza this is your place. They chain isn't well know in the SF Bay area, but they pretty much own the Central Valley.

The pizza is perfectly cooked and the thin crust has a nice crunch without being hard and overcooked. I am partial to the Canadian bacon and mushroom combo, but I have never had a bad pie in this place. They also have a small bar where you can sit and eat a slice or two , enjoy some sports and drink a cold one. They have Sierra Nevada on tap and they can do a half pitcher if you aren't all that thirsty.

Like any pizza place the prices for a pizza are a bit high considering the ingredients. Take a coupon and save a couple bucks.

“Richert Lumber - A DIY pro shop”

Richter Lumber
I have never had a bad experience at Richert Lumber. The staff is super helpful, they are fairly well stocked on most common hardware items and they have a very well stocked lumber yard.

The whole back of of the store is full of mill work and hard wood flooring samples. If you ask them, they will cut a small sample piece of trim for you to see how it will look in your house.

What is amazing is that for such a small store, they have and excellent selection of just about anything you could want for a DIY project from bathroom fixtures to entry doors and locks or even outdoor lighting systems.

Keep in mind that most of the specialty items such as doors and windows will have to be ordered, so you need to plan ahead and order your supplies well in advance.

“Go for the tequila not the food”

Blue Agave Club
There is no doubt the the Blue Agave Club has one of the best tequila bars around. The food on the other hand is quite average and a bit over priced. I've tried many dishes on the menu, even the dish voted best on the menu by a local paper (camarones xochitl). None of the dishes really stood out or were the least bit memorable.

You should go there and have a few really excellent margaritas and then walk down the street and eat at Strizzi's.

What can I say, the product is pretty good, and like my dad always told me, a bad day of baseball is still better than a good day at work. :)

“I heard good things, but was a bit disappointed”

Gay 90's Pizza Co-pleasanton
We normally go to NY Pizza down the street, but decided to give Gay 90s a try. It was lateish on a Saturday night when we walked in. We were seated right away, and ordered drinks, an appetizer and two pizzas.

The drinks didn't come until we asked for them again 15 minutes later and i think that's when they put our pizzas in the oven.

The pizzas came in about 40 minutes and the appetizer came after that. ok, enough about the service.

The veggies were undercooked, the pizza was underdone in the center and the sauce was weak.

I'd heard great things about this place, but I don't know if I am willing to give them another try. I spent $60 and felt a little cheated.

“Did somebody say 'Carnitas'!”

Taqueria el Sombrero
They have great carnitas. I usually get a couple tacos straight up with onion, and salsa (not a cilatro guy). They also have burritos and other such stuff, but I always get the tacos. They also have a decent salsa bar but there is a place in Fremont that has a better one. (more on that later).

They have standard latino drinks (jamaica, horchata, etc.) that i am fond of, a variety of beer, and a little outdoor area where you can sit and watch people park their cars.

“Olive 8 is Great”

Olive 8
I've heard Olive 8 is a great place to live. There is a cool site that has info about olive 8. http://www.beneighbor.com/condo/Seatt... It's a way to meet people who are going to live there.

“The real deal”

Han Yang Korean Bbq
I met a friend there for dinner before and A's game the other day and I was transported to Seoul. The food is spot on from what I remember of my days in the far east and they have cooking at your table but for some reason we weren't offered this choice.

There are many standard Korean BBQ favorites on the menu, but we went for a mondoo starter and a combo plate that came with at least a dozen sides.

I can recommend combo #5 although the squid was a bit tough in spots.

The hostess wasn't exactly friendly, but perhaps she was having a bad day.

“Tasty Stuff”

Round Table Pizza
I know, it's a pizza franchise, but it's still pretty good pizza and it's located in an old bank so there is a cool factor. I'm a fan of thin crust so I don't know much about all the combo, thick, stuffed or rama pies they make. The thin crust pepperoni is good and worth the price.

“Decent Food, Casual Dress”

Baci Restaurant
Baci is an Italian bistro style eatery in the downtown area of Pleasanton. They have indoor and sidewalk seating. The sidewalk seating in great in the afternoon or early evening, but can be a bit cool at night. They have what I would call a pretty standard Italian menu. There are the typical antipasta, salads, pasta, grilled meats, fish, and of course dolce. I am fond of the tortellini. It's very tasty indeed.

The prices are a bit spendy. Expect to spend at least $100 for two people if you plan to have a glass of wine with dinner.

“NY Pizza By The Slice”

New York Pizza
This place has decent pizza. You can get a huge slice of thin crust pizza for about $4. It's really a mini meal and they have a good selection of toppings. If you get a slice eat it there, if you want a whole pie, have them deliver it. The place has nothing as far as atmosphere goes, but you can people watch and take in the downtown scene.
