“Bland lunch”

Bar Celona
We went for lunch and had a couple of tapas and sandwiches. Maybe we made unlucky choices, but the tapas were pretty bland and the sandwiches lackluster.

The company was good, but we'd brought that ourselves...

“Junk telemarketing calls”

Fnin
I don't know what they sell, but they seem to call and bother a lot of people (including me) with telemarketing calls from 818-333-2670 (8183332670).

“Classic drive-in”

Mel's Drive-In
... without the drive-in of course.

In fact, this is the only real problem with this place. Like everywhere else in Los Angeles you have to drive here, but unlike most places they don't really have parking. Sure, there's a parking lot - but the attendants will charge you a random amount and generally be rude and annoying to deal with.

“Tried but failed to fix it”

Michael's Appliance Service
Michael's Appliance Service came to fix our fridge (covered by Electrolux under warranty). Although we had described the problem they wanted to come first and have a look and then order parts. Fair enough, except that process took them a few weeks.

When they finally came to repair it; it stopped working again shortly after they left. It was late in the day, so when I called I got their answering machine. When I called on the next business day I was told that they couldn't help - their next appointment would be in 3 weeks. Nice - I guess they got their money from the manufacturer and that was that.

“Huge selection; long aisles and lines”

Fry's Electronics
If it takes electricity they're likely to sell it at Fry's. Of course except if they're sold out. Or if you just can't find it.

If you ask for directions in the store you're likely to be sent to five different places if you ask five different staff members. Two of them will be Just Wrong and the other three will each have some of the items you are looking for (or something similar-ish). Yes, this means finding anything will take forever.

“Good service; great service”

Kiku
When I've picked up food from here to bring home, the service has always been friendly, the chefs great and the food delicious.

“Prompt delivery”

Crispy Crust
Unlike Steve then we have pretty good luck with pizzas from here. The pizzas are consistently good and so far they've shown up at or before the time promised every time.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of good pizza places that deliver around here; so far this is some of the best we've found.

They have a PDF with their menu on their website.

“Small deli and market”

Springdale Fruit Co
We stopped by here on the way from Zion for some delicious basic sandwiches and great gelato. They also had a small but decent selection of organic and "natural foods" type snacks and such.

The service was pretty bad though, all sorts of attitude we got -- and all they had to do was take our sandwich order, serve some icecream and ring it up! Hence they lose a couple of stars.

There's a big Apple orchard behind the market, I think they're selling fresh apples there in the season.

“Late ground package pickup”

The UPS Store
There's always parking available just outside the door which is handy (being a place you are likely carrying a bunch of boxes to and all).

More importantly though - you can drop-off your ground packages as late as 6:30pm; most other places have the last ground pickup anywhere between 3 and 5pm.

Air pickup is at 4:30.

“Tasty dinner”

Cheebo
I can completely understand the reviews who complain about the slow service. It seems like it'd be more of an in and out in a hurry place, but it's not - so plan accordingly. How can it take 5-10 minutes to pour beer in a glass?

The service has been slow but friendly on all our visits, so we've taken our time and enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Ooh - the food. It's been delicious every time! The prices are very reasonable so 5 stars.

“Late night equipment supply”

Pix Camera
Pix closes at midnight most nights. I think they used to be 24 hours, but 18 hours a day to buy supplies or rent equipment is still pretty crazy. :-) Friendly service, too.

“Gigantic selection”

Bevmo
YellowBot Location Alright - so it might not be the best wine shop in town (although it's definitely decent). However they do have a gigantic selection of beers and all sorts of alcoholic beverages. Oh, and good prices!

If you are having a party or just need to stock your bar or fridge for some new drinks, this is the place to go.

“Nice pastries”

Palo Alto Baking Co
YellowBot Location Nice French-style pastries and bread. They also had good looking cakes and a tempting sandwich menu, but it was early morning so I didn't try any of them.

“Favorite farmers market”

Hollywood Farmers Market
This farmers market is AWESOME. It's gigantic, on Ivar from Sunset to Hollywood Blvd and on Selma for a block and a half, too. It is every Sunday from 8am to 1pm. Easiest parking is at the Arclight on Sunset (get 1 hour validation at the market).

There are almost 100 stands with fresh fruit and vegetables and dozens with prepared food, bread, handmade soap and so on.

Many of the stands are all organic. Most of our favorites are between Selma and Hollywood.

“Small-ish typical mall store”

Apple Store
Typical mall-sized Apple store and service. The Apple store is nice enough, but it's in the middle of an indoor mall, eek.

Parking was relatively easy to get in and out of (for a mall, anyway :-) )

“Mmn, sake ...”

Tai Yo
Unusually neat sake selection, friendly service, fun interior and decent sushi (it's not Sushi Ike but it was ok).

Open until 3am on Friday and Saturdays!

UPDATE: we went again and the food really was pretty good. They have some nice non-sushi selections, too. I liked the feta-tofu salad. Not as strange as it sounds!

They are open until midnight the rest of the week.

“Tasty raw-ish food”

M Cafe de Chaya
Nice tasty vegan-ish food (I don't think everything is vegan, but a lot of what they had is).

Whatever cake we had for desert was super tasty. Sweet, but not too sweet. Chocolate-ish, but not too heavy. Perfect to finish off a nice light lunch. Mmmnnn.

“Excellent service”

David Ks T-Shirt Printing
When we needed a hundred shirts printed in a hurry we called T-Shirt Pros. They delivered at the promised time and we were very happy with the results. The customer service people were very patient with us every time we (unnecessarily) called and checked on the status of our shirts. :-)

We'll definitely use them again...!

Birds Rotisserie Chicken Cafe & Bar
YellowBot Location Good "scene" and drinks and decent food. The service can be REALLY SLOW and a little sloppy but the staff is always friendly. Think cafe (as the name says) more than "restaurant".

It can be a little crazy at night (more bar than cafe).

All this sounds like 3 stars, but we keep coming back and back and back so it must be at least 4. ;-)

“Yummy thai food”

Palms Thai Restaurant
It's not the most consistent of places for the service, but we've had always had good luck with the food here. The menu is big enough that most diners would be proud, so there should be something for just about anyone. :-)

The place is Really Big and a bit loud when it's full, but our Saturday lunches have been good.

On weekend nights they have a Thai Elvis, but we've never been there at the right time. The metal/chain Elvis statue they have is really cool though. :-)
