“Good doctor, careless staff service”

Sears Optical
I went to see Dr. Cynthia Arata for my first contact lenses. She did a thorough exam with varied tests and answered my questions with patience and mastering. She advised on eyeglasses and contact lenses so I completely understood my options. Then I had a training session on taking off and putting on the lenses to assure them I could handle it by myself – all meticulously assisted by the staff member, Elsa.
That was a Tuesday and we agreed that I would come back at Thursday to make sure adaption was fine and to get my prescriptions.

When I returned at Thursday, I was not given a chance to see the doctor and share if lens adapted well or not. Since I didn't intend to buy my contact lenses there (and they didn't have it in stock anyway), I met some dissatisfaction. I still chose an eyeglass frame and ordered its lenses. A few days later, when I ordered my contact lenses online, my request was cancelled because my "eye care provider" reported my exam was expired. Calling them, I was told my data was not on file yet and that I should wait for the next day when the optometrist was at the office. Noticed that the optometrist not being there didn't matter when they filled the form sent by the online store giving wrong information. Now that is solved, I have my contact lenses and eyeglasses, but don't intend to come back despite the positive first impression.

“Worth to try”

Sicilia Pizza
Maybe they deserve the name - it is as close as it gets to a Sicilian pizza that you can find in Utah. All in all, a good experience. I will certainly come back other times.

“Out of business -- good sales”

MERVYNS CALIFORNIA DEPT STORES
I just found this store when they were announcing to be going out of business with sales of 40% to 60% off. In the occasion, I bought a few girl toys at good prices. As the receipts said "no returns or exchanges", they are probably not there anymore by now.

“Questionable”

Apple Store
I went there to buy a couple of iPods. I am still wondering if the seller did it on purpose or not -- I was distracted, and sounded too much like an outsider. He quietly added a $39 AppleCare Protection Plan I did not ask for. Fortunately, he promptly refunded the money as I came back and just asked what it was about. I will think twice if there are benefits in buying Apple products from these Apple retail stores instead of other merchants.

“A must”

Sushi Masu
The best sushi I ever tasted. The chef is very precise and willing to satisfy the customers. The spicy tuna with crispy is quite a delicious experience.

“An option to book a car when arriving at LAX”

Avis Rent A Car Los Angeles Intl Airport
Good customer service. The booking by avis.com site worked well, except by not having a car of the reserved class. At first, a more expensive option was offered and then they arranged a nice and close alternative. The return was very straightforward, with an immediate verification and the final bill which matched the initial estimate. A little too impersonal, but very quick.

Their Where2 GPS system is not impressive and a bit expensive. I am not sure how it compares to an ordinary Garmin GPS device with no specials, but if there are extras, they are not significant.

“Personal care products next to The Ambrose”

Walgreens
The range of products you find at the online site is quite different than going to the pharmacy itself: the store has more options and is very well furnished.

I've found the organization of shelfs a little tough to find each of the things I wanted, but I eventually found them all. Very close to The Ambrose Hotel, that's a good store for checking if you're after personal care products and more.

“Panini with Crepes”

Cafe Crepe
I had a sandwich there which they call "panini" made of some fresh bread and a good selection of different fillings. These sandwiches are quite large and good for splitting with a friend, which we did. Just like with the sweet crepe we asked after that. I need to go back there to taste the savory crepes.

The waiter that served us was quite a figure, very funny and our orders were quickly delivered.

“Sunny and tasty”

Don Antonio's
I went there first for having lunch with some friends. When I saw the dark ambiance through which we come in, I feared to not enjoy the place. However at the back, there was a sun-enlightened space which was quite fresh and pleasant to be.

Chips, tacos, fajitas, beans, cheese, I don't remember the dish names, but they were very well done and tasty. I will remember that restaurant as a legitimate place to have good mexican food.

“Good choice for a Saturday afternoon”

Trastevere
From what I saw, I imagine Trastevere probably should have long lines and consequently reduced service quality during the high times.

But on a Saturday afternoon, it was a good experience. With a rather pleasant environment, I enjoyed their carpaccio and spaghetti a bolognese. I had no problems with the service. And the restaurant provides a nice place to watch the action at Third Street Promenade.

“Should I be here?”

RadioShack
Yes, that's how the attendant made me feel. In a city with so many competing business selling electronics, bad attitude towards customers does not seem like an appealing quality. Furthermore, the shop does not have a good range of brands, models and prices in what it sells.
