Great location on the river in Townsend

Average Rating
100

Townsend is a quiet, small town but has grocery store, gas, propane and great mom-n-pop stores. If you want all the chain stores/restaurants, go to Gatlinburg. The best spots at the KOA back up to the river and I don't recall any of them backing up against the highway. We especially appreciated the dog park and clean bathrooms.

My wife and I were traveling without reservations and visiting Smokey Mountains area. We were staying at a RV park in Pigeon Forge but is was more like a parking lot campground. We spent five nights at this KOA. A very nice location along a beautiful creek. It is within a nice, scenic drive to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. A very nice drive to the entrance of the Smoky Mt. National Park. It has a very convenient nearby store and if you want ice and fire wood delivered to you campsite, it...

We also love that it's wooded throughout, and we make a point of getting a site near the river because it's very scenic. It's just outside the National Park entrance, and a close...

It's really a family oriented place, with lots of recreational opportunity for kids (and there were a lot). The sites are a bit cramped, but everything works well. KOAs are, as you know, a bit pricey (about $70 a night), but you get attendants who deliver wood/ice to your site and remove your trash. You can get propane at the...
