What the community has to say about Top Notch

Information about this business (1)

When you are on your way to Top Notch, don't be surprised if you have a deja vu moment. It's probably because you're recalling Matthew McConaughey and his buddies having their burgers and fries at this very place in 'Dazed and Confused'. Top Notch is probably one of the fewest places to have an indoor charcoal grill, which gives their cheeseburgers the added oomph. The fried chicken(with fries...

Editorial reviews from the web (1)

This old-school drive-in has been serving up Austin's best burgers for over three decades.

This locals-only restaurant has not changed with the times. Embrace the flashback décor and see why Richard Linklater's 1970's period piece, Dazed and Confused, was shot on the doorstep...

I've been enjoying Top Notch Hamburgers for more than 15 years. It's an absolute gem that's completely worth a stop for locals or visitors. For most of it's history Top Notch has been solidly stuck in the 1970s (in a really good way!), but retirement of their old owners brought new life and a few innovations to the classic car-hop...

If you are a Route 66 enthusiast or your just old enough to remember drive in restaurants with car hops this is a must do. To my surprise the food was actually pretty good and I have refused to eat fast food for years. This restaurant opened in 1971the outside of the building and the sign have been well maintained....

Good burger, great onion rings

Stopped by for a bite and to hang out at car show and listen to some great live music. The menu ranges from traditional burgers to chicken fried steak. The burger itself was generous but I didn't find any special frills above an average burger. The onion rings were fresh, hot, and delicious. Service was fast and friendly. You can...

I'd heard this place was pretty good so decided to give it a try. I ordered a chili burger, onion rings, and sweet tea. The burger was tasty but had a thin patty, very little chili, and just a little cheese. Nothing to write home about. The onion rings are made fresh in the restaurant and were very good with...

Much better than just Alright, Alright, Alright

Since we were in town we had to stop at an iconic scene from Dazed & Confused. Ended up getting a grilled chicken burger and it was very tasty. My favorite part of the meal was hands down the sweet potato fries. Might actually be the best I've ever had.
