A friend of mine and Tom’s called him to stop by and check out my washing machine that wasn’t spinning correctly. Originally, Tom’s was to stop by in a couple of days but he called back indicating he was in my area so he wanted to stop by in the same trip, same day. Beautiful, right? Only when he got there, he spent about 10 minutes total to remove the front panel and indicate that the motor was shot. His recommendation… $200 to replace + labor costs, or he has two used washing machines he would replace it with for either $319 or $329 depending on which machine I wanted (Kenmore or Whirpool). I asked for the model numbers on the machines for some quick research to be sure I wasn’t paying $300+ for a machine that is less than $400 brand new, and quickly that conversation ended because they couldn’t provide the model numbers. This was concerning consider they're trying to sell a used machine and either don't have or won't provide a model number. Then, I got a bill for $89 (undisclosed up front as if it was contingent on whether or not I would buy one of their "used" machines) to cover the 10 minutes of looking at the machine and taking off the front panel. For barely any labor (literally looking at the machine), and zero parts, $89 for ten minutes amounts to over $500 for an hour. I understand having to make a living and support your small business, but the combination of that cost for 10 minutes and not wanting to provide model numbers on possible used replacement washers, Tom’s came off as shady and completely financially driven with little motivation to add any real service. I later called to have them read the invoice to me simply because the handwriting was illegible, and the lady on the phone got all defensive and ended up hanging up on me after cursing at me…how professional.
I would heavily caution against using Tom’s Appliance Service for any business services.

My parents always had service done by Tom's appliances as did I when I became a homeowner. Straight shooter, told us what the issue was and what we were looking at to fix it. Service does come with a price and it is true, you do get what you pay for, Tom's is worth the price.

Family owned and operated, Tom's provides repair service to mostly washers and dryer, with expert repair service on Whirlpool, Frigidaire, GE and Kenmore appliances.
