Former fraternity brothers Harry Harrell and Gary Torrence quit their day jobs a few years back to open this popular Southern barbecue spot, where patrons are lured by the smoky smell of pit-roasted ribs, pork, beef and chicken that pours from the brick chimney. A meal at Tom Jenkins is enjoyed picnic-style, beginning with the line where you order your food to the lacquered benches that brings...

Big portions of drippingly delicious barbecue are dispensed at this handy spot for eat-in or takeout, south of the New River Tunnel and north of the 17th Street Causeway. Furnishings include an old Singer sewing machine and a wringer washer, and diners partake at a half dozen or so picnic-style tables. Side dishes with dinners under $10 include baked beans, collards, and a mighty tasty macaroni...

This place is the BEST. They make absolutely delicious ribs, and their collard greens are sooo good (not watered down at all). It get's hectic at lunch time, but it is sooooo worth it. Call ahead, it works great when you want homecooked bar-b-cue at lunch time.
