Tom Bergin's Tavern

Irish bar

Review Rating
I'm not into bars, but this one is a classic old time one. They serve food in the back room which is dark and cozy.
Tom Bergin's Tavern

Fun Irish Pub

Review Rating
Tom Bergins is a great Irish pub, sports bar and restaurant. It is a cozy, dark pub on Fairfax, close to the Farmer's Market, Peterman Auto Museum and the County Museum of Art. The food and drinks are good and the people are relaxed and a lot of fun. This is a great place to spend some time with friends or family.

Tom Bergin's has been around since 1936, when it opened on Wilshire Boulevard as the Horseshoe Tavern and Kennel Club, and it's been at its current location on Fairfax Avenue for 50 years. Like a traditional Irish pub, it's a sort of community living room. It was recently remodeled, but it's hard to see what's new except for the handsome tiles in the bathrooms. The place seems to look as it... more

The Monday and Tuesday night shamrock-hanging tradition began in 1950. Ask the bartender for a shamrock; after you've had 15 drinks, you can join the list of sacred Shamrock-holders including Cary Grant, Ronald Reagan and Mr. Tom Bergin himself.

The Scene With walls plastered over in years' worth of paper-shamrock tradition, this dark pub is after-work casual and perfect for tossing back pints and watching the game (local sports reign). Not much has changed since the famous Bergin namesake passed ownership to Vodrey in 1973: Bergin's still banks on its authentic homemade Irish menu, a friendly whiskey-primed staff, and a crew... more

Proper pub tours begin with legendary Irish coffee in L.A.'s oldest Irish bar. Ladies find four-leafed (c)lovers in multitudes of elligibles prepping for St. Pat's Day, months in advance. Tagged shamrock walls in a Victorian cathedral of Guinness, plus superior bar eats with Gaelic twists. Ten trips wins your own wall-bound shamrock ceremony— become a McRodriguez or an O'Kim today. A Fine pub. Engaging Bartenders and smooth Guinness. The pub grub is superb, not costly and served promptly. Need more real Irish Tunes in the Juke -- recommend Gaelic Storm, Clancy Bro's, Christy Moore, The Wolftones...

Pros

+ Valet Parking is great

Cons

- Not enough Trad Irish on the Jukebox

Rude bartender

I live within walking distance of Bergins and unfortunately I will NEVER go in this pub again. The bartender who I believe was named Jeffery was incredibly rude. I was with 2 out of town guest (male and female) and when my male guest asked for the drink that he had ordered approx. 10 minutes prior the bartender became irate. He began yelling and told my guest that he didnt order a drink. It... more

Inside you'll actually find Irish bartenders, with their Irish accents, making Tom Bergin's as authentic an Irish bar as possible. Inside, the walls and ceilings are lined with four-leaf clovers with people's names on it. They have a great happy hour. The chicken wings are hot and tasty! And if you're into beer, definitely order the Black & Tan.
