The weekend punks and sidewalk squatters gathered under the marquee of this South Street spot are a steady if somewhat annoying reminder that South Street used to be a vibrant meeting place for the counter-culture movement of the '70s and '80s. As the area grows increasingly mainstream, the TLA ensures that South Street will always be a place to get a healthy dose of diverse music.

I've been to the TLA numerous times, and I do enjoy the venue. I love that the stage and crowd are set up close together. One of the biggest perks of the TLA, as mentioned before, it is on South Street. So you can go down early to hang out, or after the show grab a late, late dinner. However, I like to wait in line all day to get front row- and their line is horrible. You get sent to an alley... more

The TlA is the perfect place to see a show in Philly. They book tons of amazing bands. The sound is good and the staff is friendly. Also it is right in the middle of south street so you can get great food or a drink before and after the show. Go to the TLA.

I don't know what those two people were talking about... The TLA is a great place to see a live show and I've been to shows in NYC, DC, Kentucky, Trenton, New Brunswick, etc, etc, etc. The place is small enough to be intimate and big enough to be able to see the band from anywhere in the place. Plus, it's right on South Street, in a safe area, so getting a drink before or after is tres... more
