Theater Schmeater has been around so long that it's practically mainstream now. But the blend of standard plays and bizarre serials like the popular Twilight Zone series is still a bit kooky, and the faithful wouldn't have it any other way. The group usually puts on a free outdoor summertime classic. The season is basically year-round. Occasional late-night shows are showcased too.
They are home to the enigmatic Seattle treasure, Miss Intermission--a local performer who got her start here as intermission entertainment and then branched out with her own show doing her quirky, hysterical take on a dim beauty queen.
Nominated for best fringe theater because of their low-key presentation of quality plays.
The theater is located in what used to be an underground garage in Capitol Hill's bustling Pike/Pine area. There's an added naughty thrill of going to a theater next door to one of Seattle's busiest bathhouses.
