If you know and love wine, this is the shop for you. A brilliant collection of worldwide wines packs two floors, where a bottle of Chaucer's Mead is found in a corner of a room holding a 1982 Chateau Lynch Bages imperial (5-liter bottle) of Bordeaux. At the Wine Bank, separate rooms are devoted to the output of specific nations or, in some cases, to a particular type of wine, allowing easy comparisons ... more

This downtown delight makes a wine junkie feel like a kid in Willy Wonka-level candy shop. Knowledgeable staff guide or simply send you through a giddy exploration of the Bank's seven or so caverns stocked with single malts, small batch bourbons, and cognacs acquired from around the world. Less daunting than the big-box beverage retailers, the Wine Bank keeps a friendly old-world charm, embracing ... more

Hidden down on Fifth, the Wine Bank is the place to go when your gift-buying budget is modest but your gift-giving impact ambitions are high. The oenophiles that staff the shop know great cheap wine, they know great expensive wine -- they know everything to know about the fruit of the grape and take great delight in passing their wisdom onto their patrons. The antique shop feel, with old brick walls ... more

Pushing the best grape since 1989, the Wine Bank is one of the few remaining values to be found in San Diego's crowded Gaslamp Quarter. Located on Fifth Avenue between J and K Streets, the shop is just outside of the Hot Zone. With prices ranging from $3 to $3,000, this shop prides itself on its breadth of wines and the value at which it passes them along.
The old storefront's entry level is crammed ... more

San Diego's best wine shop is actually one of the finest on the west coast, featuring a great selection from around the world, but without the steep prices common at some shops. You'll find rare wines from France, Italy, and Spain, and bottles from virtually every winery in California, plus ample choices under $10. The small trove of Mexican wines is worth checking out.

The selection is great. The prices are great. The service is great. But what is really interesting about the Wine Bank is the new owner Pauly. Pauly also has a store in Bloomfield Hills Michigan. The store in Michigan is where Pauly became frieds with the now deceased reputed New York mob boss John Gotti. Pauly shipped wine every week to New York during Gotti's run as the head of the Gambino Crime ... more

Wine Bank - a local secret

Selection and value, what a concept. The Wine Bank consistently delivers both in a cosy. convenient location in the Gaslamp. Locals know to stop here before a night out dining to take advantage of CA's liberal corkage fee law. Splurge on a perfectly aged CA, French, or eclectic selection for what you'd pay for a recent vintage at local restaurants. Tremendous inventory, always at discount prices
