Really Good Shellfish

Review Rating
Not a very romantic place...in fact, it is well lit and very loud. It is rather casual.

Prices aren't cheap but the lobster and the crab there are incredible.

Close to the Santa Moica Pier.

Rich in history, "The Lobster" stands as a tribute to the family that built its reputation. Established as a Lobster Shack in 1923, the remaining original structure within the foundation and walls of the main entrance and footprint still stand at the corner of Ocean Avenue and the Pier. "Established in 1923", recessed in the corner stone, greets guests in the spirit and heritage that only belongs ... more

Start with lobster cocktail with tarragon-lemon aïoli, lobster salad with sweet corn pancakes, spicy snow crab soup, or fried calamari. For entrées, the restaurant's namesake is the main ... more

The Scene Southern California doesn't get any better than this--top-notch seafood and dreamy cocktails while overlooking a 180-degree vista of ocean, beach and the twinkling Santa Monica pier. An L.A. landmark since 1923, this vintage "seafood shack" was remodeled in 1999 with a more luxe vibe. White tablecloths and candles lend sophistication to an airy room of glass walls and wood-beamed ... more

Born on June 21 , I straddle two signs of the zodiac. Sometimes Im sensitive, nurturing Cancer the Crab who wants nothing more than to stay home alone on a Friday night in pink flannel pajamas, roasting a lemon herb chicken. Sometimes Im energetic, outgoing Gemini the Twins, gliding from guest to guest in a jersey minidress and 4 stilettos, entertaining at my own rooftop, poolside game night ... more

There's been a seafood shack called The Lobster on the Santa Monica Pier since 1923 -- almost as long as the pier's been standing -- but 2000's revival brings a new sophistication to this perpetually crowded and lively local favorite. The interior is completely rebuilt but still accentuates a seaside ambience and a million-dollar ocean view with its floor-to-ceiling windows. The menu has also been ... more

My husband and I ventured to the Lobster on the 4th of July and we were delighted to have a table at the window overlooking the Santa Monica Pier. We had the dungeness Crab “Louis” Cocktail and it was delicious for an appetizer along with the Steamed Manila Clams & Black Mussels soup that was good but not great and had much less lobster and clams than the one shown in the picture on the menu page ... more

I've heard about The Lobster ever since I moved to Santa Monica and finally decided to try it with my fiance. I will say that the location is great being so close to the Pier and the food is good. My main complaint is how extremely LA it is. When we were escorted to our table there was an open booth available but instead we got the worst possible table in the entire restaurant right next to the loud ... more
