This is a small, romantic Victorian inn on charming Irving Place in Gramercy Park. You will feel right at home as you amble up to the fireplace in the Lady Mendl's tea parlor. Antiques and fine paintings give you the sense of being in a genteel 19th century brownstone. But all the amenities of modern life are here too, and every room has a CD player, VCR and dual-line phones. Laptop computers... more

The Scene There is neither sign nor awning, which is perhaps one of the reasons rock and fashion royalty flock to these two restored 19th-century townhouses just south of Gramercy Park. Inside are 12 charming rooms, each named for a personality associated with the neighborhood. (Think Madame Olenska from "The Age of Innocence.") The townhouses' original architectural details have been... more

Possibly the most peaceful rooms in the city. Disappear behind an unmarked door into a dusky rose-tinted haze on one of New York's quietest blocks. Very Edith Wharton. Take tea at the dainty Lady Mendl's tea salon or quaff blackberry cosmos at Cibar. Four-post beds and antiques abound. Window box seats.

If it weren't for the street noise outside -- or the high-speed wireless Internet in your room -- upon entering the Inn you would think you were suddenly transported to the 19th-century New York of the Age of Innocence. This 170-year-old town house offers antique charm more easily found in the Berkshires than in the heart of what used to be Dot.Com Alley of Manhattan. All rooms are spacious,... more

I made an appointment at this tea salon for 5 of us on mother's day. The visit was an expensive one but I had been looking forward to it. When we arrived, we were seated not at a table, but on a couch and chair near a fireplace. There were available tables around us but they wouldn't let us sit at one. Instead we had to eat and sip tea off of our laps!! I couldn't believe it! My mom didn't want... more

I've stayed in 50+ hotels throughout NYC. The two times I've stayed at the Inn at Irving Place, I was treating myself and my date to a cozy night away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Staff was extremely friendly (despite super-late check-in), and had great recommendations on parking options. Breakfast was yummy. Accomodations were comfortable. Crazy overpriced in comparison to B+B's... more
