The Crossing is one of the better new restaurants to open in the busy Clayton area. The elegant cuisine is a blend of Italian and French influences, which means you can expect everything from foie gras with pears and mussels in saffron broth to Limousin Beef. Seafood is a specialty here. Try the savory blue cheese soufflé for an appetizer. For dessert, there are apple wedges with crispy pastry...

Featuring local "farm to table" food using a breadth of farmer in the Missouri and Illinois communities. When asked to define of The Crossing, Owner/Executive Chef Jim Fiala often says that he is a chef that buys locally whenever possible and cooks as any French and/or Italian chef would given the ingredients sourced. Joining Jim is Chef Matt Abeshouse who brings a wealth of passion and...

Editorial reviews from the web (5) view all

The Crossing Restaurant Review

French and Italian influences are trending upward, and The Crossing is poised to capitalize --- just as it was back in 1998 when owner Jim Fiala opened this mainstay of the Clayton dining scene. You may well see limos parked out front and the city's movers and shakers tucked into the creamy dining room. Despite that, service is unpretentious and friendly. Tasting menu is incredible-creative, many choices in every category, beautifully plated and generous enough servings. Furthermore, diners can select items from the main menu in lieu of the tasting menu selection for a small up-charge. The wait staff is knowledgeable, often long-time employees and very accommodating. Given the excellence of the menu/preparation, the atmosphere is very congenial,...

A bit crowded and noise level was higher than expected. Food was delicious and served hot.
