Tapas In an Unexpected Place

Review Rating
YellowBot Location
The Courtyard is tucked in a courtyard behind a petfood store. Don't let the location fool you into thinking this place isn't amazing. First of all, you can park in the pet store parking lot in designated spots. Second, The Courtyard is a delightful wine bar and tapas restaurant. In addition to lunches and dinners, they do breakfast, too. The prices are quite affordable considering the quality and service. Definitely try the scallops on the shell and the dates wrapped in bacon. The Courtyard is better for adult dinner, dates and private parties; it's not too kid-friendly.

While large plate entrees are offered-paella is a popular choice at The Courtyard, the tapas experience means there is more to explore through sharing. Bacon-wrapped stuffed dates are a staple but the caramelized little beauties are served with a thick, Cabrales-Spanish blue cheese dip, creating a sweet and savory treat that sings along with a sip of Roija. Offering an informed and passionate selection ... more

Taking inspiration from Spanish cities like Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid and Valencia, this mostly outdoor neighborhood tapas spot is a perfect fit for WeHo. Surrounded by tall magnolia trees, The Courtyards courtyard even houses the small bar and lounge; inside, exposed brick walls, red banquettes and eclectic artwork create a lively, breezy vibe around a smattering of wood-topped tables. Plenty of ... more

Inside, dark-wood floors, exposed beams and brick walls set the mood. A contemporary tapas menu includes Basque garlic shrimp, stuffed peppers and select olives and meats. For entrees, there are steak frites and various paellas ... more

Truly some of the most over-priced and GREASY tapas I have ever had. The Spanish tortilla was un-inspired and weighty with oil, the beef empanadas were flavorless, and the risotto-balls were absolutely disgusting--- we couldn't even finsh them. The Shrimp al Diablo was actually pretty good, but consisted of five shrimp in a slightly spicy sauce.... for $11! The wine list was pathetically short and ... more

This was my first experience with Paella. I didn't realize the dish called for a box of Rice-a-Roni and frozen carrots. Nice ambience, fair service, poor food.

I have been going to The Courtyard for almost 4 years now and they still are one of my favorites. While other restaurants have come and gone, The Courtyard still has great food, friendly waiters and a nice atmosphere. I wish more places in LA were as solid as this place. I can see why they were rated #1 best small plates and #1 best outdoor dining in all of Los Angeles.

Hmmm ... Is this an Italian restaurant or is it Spanish? What is it? Let's start with the wine. The only Spanish varietal offered by the glass didn't have a name. Weird. Whateve. Moving on. The wiater recommended a lot of things as "outstanding" and we ordered them. Beg to differ. The Shrimp Al Diablo was OK--but a little overcooked. The Steak al Pobre was good texturesie, but otherwise flavorless ... more
