A historic hotel that received a fairly bland makeover, the Allerton appeals to travelers who prefer lodgings that are brand-spanking-new. Built in 1924 as a "club hotel," providing permanent residences for single men and women, the Italian Renaissance-inspired exterior has been painstakingly restored to its original dark-red brickwork and stone carvings and limestone base. The valet parking was a huge help because we were not familiar enough with the city at this point to know where to park our car. We felt that the car was safer this way. The location of the hotel was great, out the door and just steps ... more

I went to Chicago for an overnight 'getaway' break for myself. Great location. Room was VERY small. It would have been too small if my husband had been with me. The concierge was a bit haughty if you ask me. Not very warm, felt like I was pulling teeth to get any information from him, which was completely out of sync with what I experienced everywhere else in Chicago.
Chicago is a great city with ... more
