In Short This family-style pizzeria is so popular it asks customers to call a day ahead to reserve pizza dough. Once inside, patrons find a jukebox filled with Italian and lounge-hall favorites, plus table and booths fashioned to fit a few generations. Watch the pizza makers sling the pies deep into the oven with an enormous pizza peel. The pie's thin crust and interesting combination of ... more

A real insider recommendation for pizza is Tacconelli's -- not, as you'd think, in South Philly, but way up in Port Richmond, a long cab ride north of Old City. The greatly expanded Tacconelli's is open until whenever the crusts run out (about 9pm). It's imperative to call ahead to reserve the type of pizza you want, which is prepared in a brick oven. It's ... more

I've been going to TACH'S for a year now.....it is the BEST. I've never been a thin crust person until now. The flavor of the sauce, cheese and great crust is addictive. I know many love the spinach and tomato (which is very good) but I love the Sausage...my mouth is watering just writing about it. It is the best.

This truly is the best pizza ever! I cannot believe in the 36+ years that I have lived in Philly, I did not try Tacconelli's sooner. I have reserved dough and picked up the pizza, on many occasions, before my shifts at the hospital, and we all love the pizza. Our favorites are the spinach pie and regular pie (only because we have not tried the others yet). I plan on trying the eat-in experience with ... more
