I am sure that the Summit Medical Group has some good doctors. However, my only three experiences with them over many years were all negative.
My last experience was with a surgeon who was to drain my finger from a 2 week nail infection. The doctor cut in the wrong rea (above the finger nail where no pus existed) and never drained anything while all the pus was on the side of the finger (large white ball). He indicated that the finger will shrink in size within 24 hours. Through out the whole two days following the operation, my finger looked exactly the same. I took it upon myself to drain the side of my finger where the white area was very large. 24 hours later my finger was normal in size and skin started drying out. The was not the only mistake the doctor made. During the operation I fainted while I was sitting. Instead of laying me down to help blood rush to my brain, I was left sitting for 15 minutes. After reading about my symptom, him and other Summit Medical Group doctors made me feel that it was their first experience with that. However, after using Google, I found that about a third of people suffer from that. That tells me that they had limited experience.
My second experience was also a surgery, where I had edema. Due to the internal pressure, they had to open the wound twice. The whole process took more than a month of pain and suffering through the Christmas holidays. I've had other surgeries and to avoid edema, a short term steroid prescription stops it from happening.
My first experience was 2 years after moving to NJ from NY. We maintained our NY doctors for a while until we could find a good NJ doctor. When we switched our primary care to a doctor in the Summit Medical Group. They kept referring us to other Summit Medical Group doctors for every small thing. After visiting 4 specialists in the group and then waiting on results, they never followed up or provided any feedback even after leaving multiple messages.
While chatting with the last surgeon before the surgery, he indicated that he had to join them due to the large expense of malpractice insurance associated with individual office operation.
Through my 10 years in NJ, I heard many negatives about them. The only two positives I heard were from my 90 year old neighbor and a father of one of my coworkers who was in his late 70s.
I sincerely believe that the reason for all this is management's weakness in doctor quality selection based on history and experience. Also, due to management's lack of putting people first.
