"You'd swear you were in Tokyo" at this "serene", underknown Midtown Japanese where "skillful" chef Nao Sugiyama's "outstanding" kaiseki meals are ferried by "warm", "wonderful" servers; the "unforgettable experience" comes at a "steep" prix fixe–only tab, but the pre-theater deal packs "value."

The food is extaordinary, amazing and delicious. And ontop of that it is a mom and pop shop - The Hostess is wife to Chef Nao! Weâve been going to this very special place for years and enjoy it even more wit each visit.
We have been going to Sugiyama for years. It is so nice to see the same chef, the same staff and the same high level of food and service maintained over so many years. It is not at all expensive for what you get at Sugiyama compared to many watered down quasi Japanese restaurants in the city.
Exceptional quality Japanese food delivered in multiple small plates.
It's pretty, exceptionally tasty and considering its New York not bad value.

Food was very good and creative. Ordered 5 course meal. Everything was very creative and tasty. Portions very small. This is a unique place to go for dinner after having a huge lunch.
