“No trip to 125th Street” would be complete without a stop at this “very interesting Harlem art museum” showcasing works by artists of African descent; besides exhibitions featuring paintings, photographs, works in sound and more, it offers various programs and workshops for adults and children, and the on-site store carries books, T-shirts, decorative objects and the like.

My 9yr old daughter and I enjoyed walking through the exhibits. Between the two of us we enjoyed the bookstore more and can't wait to get back!

The Extras

Guided tours at the museum aren't restricted to the artwork on display. The Studio Museum also hosts tours of Harlem architecture and, further from the esteemed halls, of other exhibits around the city.

Know Before You Go

Unlike many museums which put the free day in the middle of the week, the Studio Museum in Harlem discards its admission fee on the first Saturday of every month. That's prime time. (Parents will be glad to learn that children under 12 are always free.)
