The State Street Diner is the perfect place to grab a breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast and home fries either at six in the morning before work or two in the morning after a night going to bars. If you want to visit a classic American diner, then don't leave Ithaca without stopping here! The seats are on springs and bounce up when you stand. There is a cigarette-friendly undercurrent and smell. The State Diner is like looking at tigers and pandas in the wild; you won't be able to do it forever. Stop by when you can. We like to have breakfast here when visiting Ithaca. We've also gone there for a late-night snack. No reservations but the friendly staff will do their best to seat you ASAP - and they don't even look harried. Not a gourmet sort of a place, but there's stick-to-the-ribs diner food here.
