Once upon a time, two women took over an old Hollywood rug store and turned it into City, the loudest -- and to many tastes, the niftiest -- restaurant in town. Then a little more than four years ago, Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken moved on to other projects, not to mention fame as the Too Hot Tamales of radio and cable TV cooking shows, leaving the ex-rug store on La Brea Avenue bereft.... more

Taking up a corner spot on the La Brea strip is the Sonora CafT. The Santa Fe style building is distinctly Spanish. The dining room shows off rugged wood beams set in a New Mexico style ceiling. American Indian upholstery covers the seating that wraps around the outer wall. Maroon covered glove like chairs are scattered between random table arrangements. The Southwest menu includes green... more

Upscale hacienda serves Southwestern comfort food.

In Short Cavernous, but with enough nooks and crannies to generate a sense of intimacy, this Mexican cafe is done up in traditional Santa Fe style. The bustling bar area is crammed with light nibblers, and the spacious Southwestern dining room is filled with dressed-up couples on dates. The same family that runs El Cholo serves up Texas barbecue pork chops, ahi tuna, black-bean cakes... more

El Cholo got a lot of cousins, esse. Things get ugly at happy hour (4-7pm) when grouchy after-workers vie for seating, oh-so-sweet n' sour margs, and the attention of somebody, anybody to serve them. Dressed up home on the range Southwestern faves like Texas antelope and cowboy steak. They swear that ain't horse. We'd probably eat it even if it was, as long as it was slathered in the yummy... more

I go to Sonora all the time, open seating in the bar, good looking people, food is fab, cadillac margaritas are delicious! Consistently great service. Even though the restaurant took Nachos with Grilled chicken off their menu, they make it for us every time we go there. Very accomodating! Also, there is always street parking.

Awesome food. Best pork chop in LA. The ceviche as an appetizer is a great choice as well. It's a small cozy restaurant, very nice however not too fancy.

I have been there twice and both times have been great experiences.
