Sona Restaurant

Fantastic, Complex Restaurant

Review Rating
Sona has a selection of gourmet and prefixe meals and flights of wine. My best experiences of unique meals have been with Sona's vegetables and seafood. The attention to detail by the chef and waitstaff verges on feudalism and you find silverware and china magically appearing and vanishing before you get used to it. Sona is perfect for a special occasion to celebrate or a romantic dinner, but probably is not the place to bring your kids unless they are in their 30's.

Located on northwest corner of La Cienega and Westmount, Sona is an elegant oasis in the midst of the hub of Los Angeles. With its minimalist beauty, Sona is a veritable canvas on which the Myers can express the varied strokes, flavors and textures of their graceful cuisine. With Izabel Lam china, Sambonnet flatware, Riedel stemware, stunning touches of wood, stone and granite and earthbound... more

“Modern French, seasonally spontaneous” is the motto at David Myers’ masterpiece of a restaurant. Before there was Comme Ca, there was Sona, an oasis of destination dining on a frenetic stretch of La Cienega that is also home to Norm’s and Trashy Lingerie. Sona filters out the banality of the city with Izabel Lam china, Sambonnet flatware, Riedel stemware, stunning touches of wood, stone and... more

This island of gastronomy floats just north of the Beverly Center, standing out on a patch of La Cienega otherwise notable only for a mens club, a car wash and Trashy Lingerie. It isnt just the cuisine that makes dining at Sona special, its the attention to detail reflected in every aspect of the dining room. From the Riedel stemware to the natural elements of stone, granite and wood integrated... more

Transcendent cuisine served in an austere, Zen-inspired space.

Arguably L.A.'s most acclaimed restaurant, Sona is a bit of an anomaly. After all, in a city where it's more about style than substance, this disarmingly simple space tantalizes the eye with not much more than a bubbling stone fountain and a candlelit bar. The chilly dining room with unadorned, brushed concrete walls and a minimalist look, feels more like a stark sushi bar than a luxurious... more

Proprietors-chefs David and Michelle Myers refer to their restaurant as an urban oasis. And it truly is an oasis, a floating island of gastronomy in a neighborhood best noted for a men's club, a car wash and a lingerie shop with trashy in the name. Sona's quality of ingredients and attention to detail are reflected in the prices, which are high by L.A. standards but a bargain by San Francisco... more

Great meal, lived up to expectations

The meal at Sona lived up to all the hype I've heard. The sweet corn chowder started the meal wonderfully, followed by the melt in your mouth beef tenderloin and short ribs. A companion and I split an ounce of the wagyu beef just to try it and it, for me, beat the wagyu at Cut. For dessert definitely try the fried lemon meringue pie. It's unique and flavorful.

Went to Sona for a special occasion where they had a nine-course prefixe. Just as a qualifier, I've eaten at just about every "nice" restaurant in LA as my significant other likes to call herself a "foodie" which makes no sense to me whatsoever. Over nine courses I did not have one thing on my plate that I liked. I ended up giving every last dish to her and left hungry. I've traveled a lot and... more
