Singapore's Banana Leaf

Something Different

Review Rating
Singapores Banana Leaf is a great place to eat at when you are in the Farmer's Market. It's very popular and there are only a few seats but the wait is worth it. I usually go for spicy noodles, mee goreng or a curry puff and wash it down with a lime aid. The prices are very good and the cuisine is different enough so that you never get bored (they have a lot of specials, too.)

I really try to like this place. Maybe because my favorite Indo-Asian restaurant is 40 miles away and I'm willing to settle for coconut milk and lemongrass boiled together when I have a real craving. The roti chanai is edible, but it's the same frozen packaged stuff you can get in any thai supermarket. The chicken curry gravy served with it is bland. The laksa is watery, and often overloaded with useless ingredients like bean sprouts. Tragic, really, since street vendors in Asia work with so much less and turn out much better results.

Singaporean food

The food here is more Indonesian in style than Chinese. Yummy Laksa, Gado Gado and Nasi Goreng! All dishes are made to order so it's not fast food.

One of the only Malaysian places in LA

I have been looking for one item everywhere in LA, Roti Kunai, and I finally found it here! This place is AWESOME with really authentic food. Too bad it is just a little eatery, and there aren't more restaurants like this is LA, there are quite a few in New York. Also, it is in the Grove, so parking isn't the best but if you happen to be spending the day in the grove, this is the place to grab... more

Overrated, not authentic, and worst service in farmer's market

I used to like this place, but not anymore. The last time I went there, I ordered Tuna Sambal and it tasted really weird and not authentic. They also reduce the food portion a lot.

Most importantly, the woman at the server's really rude and she kept playing with her little girl when I ordered.

NOT RECOMMENDED!

Pros

+ none

Cons

- Worst service, rude people, not authentic

Always a pleasure, love the me goring (spelling?) and the curry fish. The coconut drink and the desert with the red beans are a must. Go hungry or with a friend that likes to share because one persons stomach is not big enough to enjoy all the delicious choices!
