I took my truck to Service Body Shop following a deer hit a few days before in early 2010. The truck needed a new hood, grille, and the unibody straightened so that the passenger door wouldn’t hit the front fender while opening. Although It needed these cosmetic fixes, we drove the truck over to the shop as the radiator was still ok. When we came back by to pick up the truck a week later we immediately knew something was wrong when they started to pull it out of the fenced off area behind the shop. It was making a loud rattling noise and leaking antifreeze. They thought everything was fine, but I pointed out that the fan was now rattling against the shroud and it had broken in the process and the radiator was now leaking. One would think they would take the radiator out of the truck before pulling on the radiator support to prevent damage. They said they would install a new radiator and shroud and for us to pick it up in a few days. This is a great inconvenience as we live out of town and made a special trip 120 miles round trip to pick it up. I paid them around $2000, and drove it home a few days later only to notice a puddle of antifreeze upon pulling into the driveway. I popped the hood, and noticed that the radiator had a crack in it and the shroud was broken and just held together with a couple zip ties. If they had replaced the radiator one would think that it shouldn’t have any cracks in it. My guess is they just poured in a cheap can of radiator stop leak to just get me out the door. Strike one. Next I went to get something out of the passenger door and it couldn’t open as the fender was still pushed back slightly closing the gap with the door. Strike two. I then tried to get the hood to latch, but had a lot of trouble as it didn’t want to close all the way. I was hesitant to drive it in this condition as I didn’t want to recreate a scene out of the Chris Farley / David Spade movie Tommy Boy. Strike three. I tried calling them but the owner absolutely refused to help and was yelling at me on the phone leading to a frustrating end to the phone call. I then had to have the truck towed to a friends house where luckily they fixed it for me as I couldn’t afford to pay $2000 to a second shop (the truck was on liability only). I should’ve opened the hood and inspected the truck closely when I picked it up, but I assumed that they had fixed the problems and I needed to get to work. In retrospect I should have contacted the Better Business Bureau on these crooks. PLEASE LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE AND NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO SERVICE BODY SHOP.
