Soaring 1,454 feet into the air with 110 stories,
the Sears Tower is the tallest building in America and the second-tallest building in the world. On a clear day the view from the
tower's Skydeck, located on the 103rd floor,
spans about 40 or 50 miles and into four states:
Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. The
elevator to the top travels at dizzying speed,
taking you the... more

While no longer the world's tallest building, the Sears Tower still stands proud. High-speed elevators climb 110 stories to the observatory deck, and when clear, the view from 1,454 feet can be stunning. Enjoy bird's eye views of Lake Michigan, both the North and South Sides of the city, the surrounding suburbs and, on a clear day, parts of Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. The Skydeck Tour also... more

After a $4 million renovation, the Sears Tower Skydeck boasts more than a fantastic view. The elevators are equipped with televisions, and when visitors arrive at the top, a multimedia Chicago exhibit gives them more to do than just look out the windows. Murals and interactive special effects wrap around the entire floor, highlighting Chicago history, writers, artists, historic landmarks,... more

First Sears sold the building and moved to cheaper suburban offices in 1992. Then the skyscraper got an ego blow when the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, went up and laid claim to the title of world's tallest buildings. (The Sears Tower has since put up a 22-ft. antenna in an attempt to win back the title.) Tallest-building posturing aside, this is still a great place to orient... more

I expected the long wait (almost 2 hrs even though the sign said the wait would be 1 hour) and the high cost ($50 for family of 4) but after the wait & cost, I did not expect to be CRAMMED into the elevator like sardines. My 77yr old mother was with me and was being smashed. It was ridiculous. The attendant kept asking us to "take a baby step back". I finally yelled back at her that there was... more

Sears Tower is absolutely one of my favorite places in Chicago. I know it is quite a ways to the top of it, where the Skydeck is so keep your eyes close if you're afraid of heights (at least until you get off the elevator). You have to pay a minimal amount to go up there but the view is amazing!

The attraction shuts down on windy days, which is pretty often actually -- but when it's up, a lot of tourists flock to get up there. The views are pretty breathtaking, but I'm not sure we got our money's worth, as you can only look out the windows for so long before going back down.
