Vacuum Cleaner Exchange Issue YP.com

I bought a vacuum from Sears online. Out of the box the dirt sensor did not work. Sears customer service suggested I return the vacuum to this Sears appliance store for an exchange and gave me their phone number, but when I called they said they were not equipped to handle the exchange. If they can't handle a vacuum cleaner exchange, I'm glad I didn't buy a range or refrigerator from them,...
