This quaint Beacon Hill market caters to serious gourmet cooks with ingredients you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else in America. The deli features lamb, beef and poultry along with more unique items like rattlesnake. The narrow aisles are packed with sauces, exotic spices and condiments, imported jams, marmalades and oils. The bakery section is one of the area's finest.

Savenor's is the perfect place to provision yourself before a concert or movie on the nearby Esplanade (or a really pricey cookout; Kobe beef, anyone?). And it's the local purveyor of exotic meats -- if you crave buffalo or rattlesnake, this is the place.

I am French, I live in the Beacon Hill and I am very picky about food and cheese, and Savenor has a good selection of both AND something rare in the US, the cheese are actually eatable! The service is very nice and friendly and the vegetables are fresh.

Hints: If you buy a French cheese (and any French product), it is mandatory in France to indicate the expiration date of the product (a... more

Having lived in France, I'm always looking for someplace where I can get GOOD cheese, preferably French, and Savenor's fits the bill. They have a good selection of cow, goat, and sheep's milk cheeses and generally have baguettes available (though they're not necessarily French-style "croustillant" baguettes). There's also a good selection of foie gras. All in all, it's a bit pricey, but... more
