The Old Mint itself is a focal point in San Francisco's history. A National Historic Landmark built in 1874, it served for numerous years as the city's treasury during the illustrious California Gold Rush. The neo-classical building, affectionately nicknamed The Granite Lady, is also one of the few structures to have survived the great 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire.
