Tucked into the farthest corner of a shopping center, Sakana enjoys being under the radar, except that devoted sushi lovers flood this place. The menu is massive, the fish fresh. They excel at sushi rolls, though there are options for Japanese food fans. The space is long and narrow, a kind of yin/yang feel of the alternating black and white sushi bar area contrasting with the small dining...
If you think of the gilded Coast Village Road shopping center---where Sakana is located---as a ''strip mall,†then Manhattan's Time Warner Center is an oversize food court. This chic yet teensy space caters to down-tempo celebs and other movers and shakers who reside in this wealthy seaside enclave. Single white roses and twinkling glass votives impart a minimalist ambience, yet the sushi is...
If you don't like sushi, or tasting your fish, smother it with 5 different heavy-handed sauces or eat at Sakana. The presentation was sloppy, my rice was all falling apart. Among around 300 items on the menu, I must have ordered freezing cold egg with lukewarm mushy fish and pools of goopy sauce. The servers passed us our orders over...
what a great place to dine. we love the 'sakana tower'. a column of crab, tuna, scallops and caviar with the most beautiful presentation. but the menu never ends there. ask the sushi chefs for their on-the-spot creation and for us, it has never been anything but fantastic. enjoy...
This charming sushi bar is the gem of Montecito and very popular with the locals. Our waitress was great, she was very pleasant and responsive to all of our needs. The food presentation is fantastic and the sauces are to die for. So if happen to be in the area Sakana will not disappoint.
Delicious fish, tonite I enjoyed sashimi - Ono, Mirugai, Tako, Ika, Toro & Sake. Also had the Blackened Yellowtail Press Box, beautiful presentation & taste. The California rolls & Yellowtail sushi were very good as well.
This is a busy & smallish restaurant so bring your patience.
Best sushi around but be prepared to wait. The hostess may tell you 20 minutes but could easily be an hour as they seem to let "friends" slip in ahead of waiting customers. If you try to confront they'll put you off even longer and give you the worst table. All this being said, the food is unique and fresh. Very tastey.
