Excellent service and food!

I stay at the hotel that was excellent, front desk superb! The steak was perfect, the lobster was fresh, price was high but worth it. One of the best places in KC and love the atmosphere and decor of the place. Very much worth the money! Money well spent for a city lacking in the resturant business.

Pros
+ Steak was great!

Cons
- NONE, perfect

Overrated

We still can't seem to find a great non-chain steak house in KC. A travesty, right? Well the in dependant Nielsen group met up and ate at Phillips Chop House the other night. And let me tell you, I don't think anyone was very impressed. First off, my whiskey sour was made with a pre-made mixer I could've bought in the grocery (unlike McCormick & Schmick, which was handmade). All the sides were great, including my scallops on the side. However, a medium-well filet of beef should be slightly pink in the middle, but what I received was Well Done, as well as everyone elses, except for the guy who ordered Medium (which looked Medium Rare). The flavor was much better than Plaza III, but Houston's has so far been the best steak in KC so far.

Downtown boutique hotel

This is a very nice boutique hotel in the downtown KC area, the rooms are small though (because of the hotel's age), and it's very pricey. They run some pretty good specials though.

Excellent old hotel in downtown Kansas City. Walking distance to the Convention Center and the new Power and Light District. Wonderful atmosphere and staff. Rooms are large - dining is great - parking a little tricky.

Juicy, savory steaks

We spent an indulgent weekend at the Phillips Hotel with dinner in the Chop House and still share that first experience with friends. The atmosphere brings to mind the warm and seductive polished wood of a private library. Ambience soft and subtle. The service is impeccable. Timely and with superb execution by every staff member. The filet mignon was ordered medium (for some that is a sin)and arrived exactly as I have always imagined. Vegetables were crisp and hot. Salads full of baby leafs and what tasted like home grown tomatoes. We thoroughly enjoyed a visit from the Chef who was quite humble when complmented. Definitely a five star experience.

Pros
+ valet parking through the hotel.

Cons
- a bit pricey for some but oh so worth it.

Vintage feel, treated like royalty

I snaged a great deal on a room and loved every minute of it. The hotel seemed pretty empty and the front desk staff very helpful. Adressing me as Ms. almost like I was a princess. The bed was SO comfortable and the room was exqusite! It was too bad I could only stay one night. Highly recommended to anyone wanting a nice hotel to relax and get away.

Pros
+ Fluffy pillows and great feel.

Cons
- Maid came at 8:15!

Wonderful attention to detail!

We stayed at the Hotel Phillips for a weekend get away. We loved the art deco interior and beautiful lobby which greets you upon entering. The attention to detail is wonderful, down to the aveda bath products and the service is attentive from the friendly and professional front desk staff to the bellmen. The bed was extremely comfortable with a plush comforter and down pillows. I highly recommend staying here to anyone who wants a luxurious and relaxing time away!

Pros
+ Service, Luxurious Beds, Decor

Cons
- Valet Parking Only

Art Deco Excellence!

One of Kansas City's most beautiful examples of Art Deco Architecture has been born again at the Hotel Phillips House. This downtown hotel is once again one of Kansas City's finest. Where other historic hotels typically have small rooms and baths, these will surprise you in their spaciousness. Though it's puzzling with such large rooms why the current reincarnation failed to set aside any two-bedded rooms, all rooms are one-bedded kings. The two-story lobby is breathtaking and the lower level, formal dinning room is very elegant and romantic. The 12st bar is casual and fun but sometimes can offer bad surburban (garage band) entertainment. The Hotel Phillips House failures in the past have always been bad management rather than the physical property itself. Let's hope this time around a quality operator is more pemanent, for the Phillips House deserves nothing less.

Pros
+ Architecture, Romantic, Downtown

Cons
- Only King Bedded Rms

Best Little Known Restaraunt in KC

This place is fabulous. The food is wonderful and consistently high quality. The atmosphere is quiet and romantic. In my humble opinion it is one of KC's best kept secrets and that is a shame. The food far surpasses several restaraunts that everyone in KC is buzzing about. Give it a shot. You won't regret it.

The "Big City" in KC

Fantastic view of the old (and soon to be new) downtown. Did the romance package ... rode the old "cage" elevator to a beautiful room, with waiting roses, chocolates, champagne ... really wow-ed the little lady. Walking distance to a jazz concert, and great steaks downstairs. This is the perfect place to getaway to the city ... and know that you aren't in the suburbs.
Use the valet parking, or you may never see your car again.

Pros
+ View, Location, Big Rooms

Great Location

The hotel is in a great location! Only 2 blocks from dozens of resturants, coffee shops and night entertainment. The beds were very comfortable and the showers were nice and hot. The few things that we were disapponted with were that the exercise equipment was extremely old, it was rusted out and was difficult to use. The walls were very...

My girlfriends and I recently spent a weekend in KC shopping during the day and going out in the power and lights district at night. We were advised to stay at Hotel Phillips by another friend and we were SO pleased with our stay! The hotel itself is amazing, a beautiful lobby and great service. The room is like a...

Great old hotel- lots of historic charm

We wanted to stay somewhere with a great location and lots of historic charm...this was it! We loved the public areas...rooms were a bit small and had not been cleaned very well (not DIRTY, just not really clean). Our only complaint was that there was no self parking- valet only.

Average hotel, next time I will stay a Marriott or the Hyatt

Druing my stay Labor Day weekend 2009, I was expecting something extremely nice only to find out it is just an average hotel. I would have rathered stayed at the Marriott or Hyatt. The lobby had a smell of a very old lady's house. The room was just average. The service was below par. I ran out of towels on...

exceptionally nice hotel

Picked the hotel phillips after researching hotels close to the convention center. I was a little apprehensive after walking into the lobby--its just older and a tad musty, but found the hotel room a pleasant surprise. Spacious, quiet, clean, updated. Every staff member I've interacted with has been polite and professional. I secured a bundled rate which included breakfast and...

Beautiful lobby, average room

Won through priceline at a signficant savings, and I would not stay here again without a similarly hefty discount. The main draw was its proximity to the Sprint Center and Power & LIght District. Parking is expensive, as noted in other reviews. Gorgeous lobby, although room was just basic: small, with a minor ladybug infestation. A rather unfortunate-looking stain on...

what a great hotel

The hotel has the old charm and great customer service you'd expect. It is centrally located to almost all the downtown sites. The price with valet parking was comparable to most hotels. I have been to many large cities, mostly east of the mississippi river. The experience I had at the Hotel Phillips was outstanding! The room was a king...

I got a last minute deal on this hotel and had no idea what to expect. I could not have been more positively surprised. The front desk staff (I believe his name is Andrew) was exceptionally friendly and offered many helpful recommendations. Everyone else we encountered was very friendly too. The room was a little bit tired, but very clean,...

1940s-Style Charm but Parking Extra

I stayed at the Hotel Phillips for my one-year anniversary trip to KC. I really liked the 1940s-style of the place. However, the valet service was $18/night and NOT mentioned in any of the information except the bill given to us at our check-out. I was NOT happy at this surprise...especially since there are no other parking options. Also, our...

We went to Kansas City for a 4 day conference and decided to make it a working/leisure trip. The Hotel Phillips was a WONDERFUL surprise! We didn't stay where they had booked a block of rooms because we felt the price was inflated and found an unbelievable deal on Expedia! When we arrived, they had run out of the rooms...
